The Juicer!

I have a birthday coming up this week. I am turning 35 and I am feeling the creep of time upon me. In the new year I will have a 7 year old in the house, and I feel like she was just born yesterday. I feel like since having kids time has sped up. I am sure its just the effect of being a crazed modern day mom with always more on my to do list. All that aside, I decided to get myself an early birthday present, something I have wanted for a long while.

When I was a kid my own mom got on a crazy healthy kick at one point, where she started trying to sneak tofu into meals, and bought a juicer

Introducing my new best thing: my juicer. Growing up my mom had one, and in my early twenties when I stopped thinking of my mom as kooky and started seeing wisdom in some of her alternative ways, I wanted one. However my twenties were the years of my traveling the world and moving every year if I could. Somehow the high end juicer never synched with my nomadic lifestyle. Fast forward to now when I am worrying about getting old, very hunkered down with kids and a mortgage, and what better present could there be for a girl.

Inaugural Juice – Carrot, Apple, Celery

I have made two different juices a day over the weekend, just because it is so much fun and I want to keep trying different things. I had a bunch of oranges that were looking past their peak, so Saturday morning we made carrot and orange juice for breakfast. I also had a big bunch of prune plums my dad had brought from his farm, so we juiced those up. The plum was probably my least favorite so far, but still good.

I had to run out in the snow this afternoon to get a few things for dinner and it occurred to me I better stock up for juicing supplies for the week now. At one point I looked down into the card and was stuck by all the colourful goodness and so had to take a picture of that too. I surely wouldn’t have the time to cook all this this week, but I can certainly juice it. As soon as I got home I made a nice pineapple strawberry juice for the girls and pineapple cucumber for me and the hubby. Delicious.

This really is my new best thing. I probably will tell everyone I talk to in the next week, because I am just so excited about it. I can hardly wait to get up and make my breakfast. I am thinking a nice carrot, apple, celery, beet and kale.
